An exterior Alteration Application need not be submitted for political signs, temporary signs such as garage sale signs, or signs advertising contracted work being done on the property, if, in addition to being in compliance with the Howard County Sign Ordinance, they meet the following criteria:

Political signs may not be posted in the community’s common areas and must meet the
criteria of Howard County, Maryland, and Federal Law.

No temporary sign (excluding political signs) shall be larger than 20 inches by 28 inches, nor stand more than 3 feet above the ground when measured from the top of the sign or post, whichever is higher. Contractors will be permitted to use their logos, trademarks and other color schemes, one per lot.
Signs shall not be posted on trees, light poles, street signs or official neighborhood
identification signs. No more than one temporary sign may be placed on any property. One direction sign is permitted on a corner leading to an open house but must be removed at the end of the sale day.

Signs shall be neatly lettered, clean and maintained in good condition.
Standard home security signs may be attached to the front of the house. Free standing home security signs up to twelve inches square are permitted under the following conditions:
Signs must be mounted on a metal stake or wood post located no further than 10 feet from the house.
Only one such sign may be placed in front of the house. Another may be attached to the rear of the house or mounted in the rear yard.
Garage sale signs are permitted up to 24 hours in advance of the sale and must be removed at the end of the sale day.
Signs advertising contracted work being done on a property are permitted for up to 30 days. These signs must be removed upon completion of the project.
No sign shall interfere with vehicular or pedestrian traffic, obstruct traffic sight lines, or otherwise impair safety. The sign must be at least 20 feet from the adjacent curb or street.
No other signs shall be permitted on any lot without submission and approval of an Exterior Alteration Application.
